“Welcome to the Seoul National University Population Policy Research Center,
Opening Hope for the Future through Population.”
The Seoul National University Population Policy Research Center (SNU PPRC) conducts research that describes, interprets, and analyzes social phenomena centered on the three fundamental elements of population: birth, death, and migration. Our mission is to foster macro-level and challenging discourse on the causes and consequences of population changes, disseminating these insights not only to academia and government but also to the general public.
“Beyond the Demographic Imagination”
Demography envisions the future. While it may seem audacious to predict and imagine an uncertain future based on population trends, the reality is that much of tomorrow’s society is already determined by the population of today. This is why the phrase “the predetermined future,” as seen through the lens of demography, resonates with so many. However, SNU PPRC aspires to go beyond simply forecasting the “predetermined future.” Our research aims to leverage population trends to design a more hopeful future. Since the future belongs to today’s youth and the next generation, SNU PPRC fosters an environment where multiple generations coexist and collaborate in research endeavors.
At SNU PPRC, experts from diverse academic backgrounds—including demography, public health, family studies, statistics, media, marketing, and geography—analyze population dynamics with a broad perspective, engaging in multidisciplinary and integrative research. Through such convergence, we explore the diverse social implications of population changes and propose practical solutions to help governments, businesses, and individuals prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
We are committed to ensuring that the research conducted at our center does not remain confined to academic circles. Instead, we strive to share useful, engaging, and accessible information with the public through various channels.
Thank you for visiting the Seoul National University Population Policy Research Center.
